Physical Education
There is a direct connection between physical activity and brain development. This reality guides many components of our program. Our students receive daily Physical Education in a variety of different forms. Our P.E. curriculum includes:
- Cardiovascular Health & General Fitness
- Coordination, Balance & Motor Skill Development
- Strength Development
- Agility & Flexibility
- Nutrition & Making Healthy Choices
- Teamwork & Problem Solving
Muay Thai Kickboxing
Part of our P.E. curriculum includes Muay Thai kickboxing, an ancient martial art that incorporates and develops physical, mental, emotional and spiritual strength. In addition to physical exercise, this training helps our students develop focus and discipline, as well as stress and anxiety-reducing strategies. We have a Muay Thai gym on-site at our school, where students and families train. |
SPARK Breaks
Throughout the day, our students take SPARK breaks to help with managing attention. Dr. John Ratey's work illuminated the connection between learning and exercise (Spark: The Revolutionary New Science of Exercise and the Brain, 2008). SPARK breaks are a time for our students to get their heart rate elevated and their blood pumping, resulting in increased focus and attention.
